The essay component of the course consists of 5 short, summary essays based on various issues discussed in the course. The essays will be spaced evenly throughout the course, and there will be lots of advance notice. The material that the essays will be based on will have been covered in class as part of the course.

The basic expectations are:

  1. proper introductory and concluding paragraphs
  2. a thesis statement consisting of one sentence
  3. proper paragraphing throughout the paper
  4. proper grammar and spelling
  5. a logical flow to the paper
  6. generalizations, observations, evaluations, conclusions, etc. backed up by sufficient evidence

Each essay will be marked out of 20. The essay component of the course is valued at 25% of the course.

NOTE: There is no "late" penalty. However, NO late paper will be accepted after the others have been marked and returned to the class.
